Generating energy and solving the urban solid waste problem

The Paulínia Verde thermoelectric plant uses biomethane produced from landfill biogas to generate power for the National Interconnected System.

The biogas is obtained from the decomposition of organic matter contained in urban waste.

Through purification processes, the plant converts this biogas into biomethane, a renewable and decentralized fuel. Using biomethane for power generation avoids greenhouse gas emissions.

From waste to energy

Raw Material
At the sanitary landfill, biogas is produced from the decomposition of food waste (organic matter) contained in urban waste from nearby cities.
Transformation
UTE Paulínia Verde converts the biogas into biomethane, a renewable natural gas, for use as fuel.
Generation
In UTE Paulínia Verde's engines, biomethane gas is burned to generate electricity.
Transmission
The firm, renewable energy generated at UTE Paulínia Verde is fed into the National Interconnected System (SIN).

One of the country's most important load centers

UTE Paulínia Verde is located in the Paulínia Ecopark, a development that modernizes the traditional concept of a sanitary landfill — where urban waste is deposited and covered with soil — turning waste into a profitable business that combines environmental preservation with renewable power generation.

Its strategic location generates energy and drives the economy in one of the country's most important load centers, the Campinas (SP) region.
